The Challenge

Team Academy has proudly worked with Aldi for over 15 years, supporting leadership and people development across the business.

In the early 2000s, Aldi made a bold decision.

They were already known for being exceptionally efficient,  getting customers in and out of stores quickly, keeping costs low, and passing savings directly back to shoppers.

What they hadn’t focused on before was customer service as a deliberate business strategy.

Aldi recognised that while efficiency brought customers through the door, experience would keep them coming back.

They wanted to elevate how their people connected with customers  without losing the operational excellence they were famous for.

That’s when they invited Team Academy in.

Our Approach

Rather than traditional “customer service training,” we designed an experiential programme that brought Aldi’s values to life on the shop floor.

The focus was simple:

• Real conversations

• Practical behaviours

• Human connection

• Ownership at every level

No generic workshops. No box-ticking.

We worked closely with Aldi to create a tailored experience that felt authentic to their culture — fast-paced, practical, and people-first.

In just three months, we trained 29,000 colleagues nationwide, embedding consistent service behaviours while empowering individuals to show up with confidence and care.

The Results

The impact was immediate and measurable:

✅ Customer complaints reduced by 33%

✅ Commercial uplift of £11.4 million

✅ Stronger customer connection across stores

✅ Increased colleague confidence and engagement

Most importantly, Aldi proved that efficiency and great customer experience don’t have to be opposites.
